Tackling Racism Together — Local Government Forum
Preston City Hall
How can councils tackle racism while ensuring all communities are heard, respected and included?
Councils play an important role in addressing racism and discrimination through their policies, services, workplaces, community engagement and public spaces. This forum brings councillors and council officers together to consider what an effective, practical and whole-of-community approach can look like at the local level.
This forum will explore the National Anti-Racism Framework (NARF), developed by the Australian Human Rights Commission, and how it can be applied in local government.
Through panel discussions, community perspectives and practical discussion, we will explore how councils can:
- identify and address racism and discrimination;
- strengthen policies, services and community engagement;
- ensure their approach reflects the needs of the whole community; and
- translate the NARF into practical local action.
This cross-sector initiative is supported by Democracy in Colour, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Hindus for Human Rights and the Jewish Council of Australia.
